Karello Cattery was founded in 1996. Shortly after, our first CFA registered breeding Manx cat pair were purchased from Barbara St. Georges (pictured below).
Barbara was a long time Manx cat breeder and CFA Allbreed judge. She had over 50 years of her life and passion dedicated to this breed. She became my mentor and longtime friend. Barbara left us in April 2009, a big void was left in the breed. I took up her mantle and carry on in her memory and honor.

Over the years a lot has changed, yet our love and passion for this breed has not. We are a small, home based, hobby breeder cattery. We’re located centrally in rural Pennsylvania, close to Penn State University Main Campus near State College, PA. All of our Manx cats are our beloved companions and pets. We interact and socialize with them one on one, daily. Our kittens are held and touched from birth until they go into their new homes. Each cat has a story, its own personality and is very special to us. We treat our Manx cats humanely, not like livestock or for profit only, like some animal breeders. Our Manx cats are never housed in outside buildings.
Breeding Ideals
We selectively breed hoping to achieve breed standard and show quality in each litter. Because we care about what we produce, our main goal and focus is to produce sound, healthy, well socialized Manx kittens. With extensive knowledge of the Manx breed cat, it’s genetic mutations and limitations since 1996 we feel we have the ability to produce what we seek. Soundness is very important if you’re to be serious about breeding Manx cats and owning them. Without soundness, you have no solid ground to build on. Keeping strict breeding standards has proven effective for us for many years. There are low health related issues linked to the genetic mutation associated with this breed if bred responsibly. We produce Manx with sound bloodlines, charming personalities and solid bone structure.
As a rule, we never breed our females to fill demand or to simply make a profit from by selling their kittens. We preferred to breed for quality not quantity. We specialized in short hair when we began but now produce both short and long hair (Cymric) Manx in our litters. We breed our cats in hopes of producing show quality Manx kittens (rumpies) in each litter. Although, more pet quality kittens (tailed or stubby/semi tailed) than show quality kittens are born. We spay and neuter our retired breeders and find them quality homes.
Our Philosophy
We never raise our Manx in buildings outside. We never have large quantities of kittens available. We don’t sell our kittens at lower prices because we have too many kittens to care for or socialize at the same time. Lower prices can be good when buying clothes or an airline ticket, but when adopting a companion animal, breeding cat or show cat, this should be avoided and considered a “red flag” something isn’t right. You can expect the price to go down as age of cat goes up. Saving money isn’t really saving if you have hundreds of dollars in veterinary bills from a lower priced, domestic tailless, knock-off Manx or Cymric look-a-like kitten.
Our kittens are always placed with a Sales Contract, a minimum of two distemper vaccines and veterinarian checked before leaving us. NO EXCEPTIONS! Health certificates if needed, veterinarian fees and any extra testing is the responsibility of the new owner. Spay or neutered prior to leaving our home is mandatory, unless other arrangements are made.
Opportunity
We’re always eager to share our love of the Manx and Cymric breed cats with others. We promote showing and breeding of registered Manx and Cymric cats in The Cat Fanciers Association, Inc. (CFA) and The International Cat Association (TICA). If you or someone you know, is serious about Manx or Cymric cats in CFA or TICA, contact us to learn more.
